During the "First Night Carolina" new students are taught to be Gamecock fans for the rest of their lives. That person in the funny suit is Cocky, the university mascot.

After all that sport and heat much needed refreshment was provided by various parties. This is the aptly named "Worldparty". Going from left to right: Katrien from South Africa, me, and Ina from Germany. Because of the drinking laws in South Carolina, all drinks at this party were non-alcoholic. I've gotten used to that soon enough, though.

Of course there is work as well. This is the newly built Graduate Research Science Center.
