On July 7 the Freedom Fest 2001: "A tribute to our heritage" was held at Pope Airforce Base in Fayetteville, NC. Everyone who is someone in American airshow aviation was there. Like the Sabre, above, which became involved in a "dogfight" with another Korean-era jet: the Chinese-made Mig 15, below.

Notice the civilian-registered Starfighters (the only ones in the world) in the background.

There was also a bunch of Hercules, Apaches, Chinooks and Airbornes practicing an airfield assault.

The Golden Knights, the Airforce's parachute display team were quite impressive.

The Thunderbirds were the finale of the airshow and definitely the publics' favorite.

Is it just me or are those planes touching each other?

BTW: Most of the pictures on this page were taken by Ken Smith. Thanks, Ken.
